Dry Needling in Mint Hill

Dry needling on shoulderOffering our patients all the services they need to heal and function at their best is our passion at De-Lux Chiropractic. Along with chiropractic care tailored to your specific needs and goals, we offer soft tissue therapies to augment your healing and help your adjustments hold longer.

Dry needling is one such therapy. If Dr. Vang believes it can help you, he will recommend it as part of your overall plan of care.

Acupuncture vs. Dry Needling

Although the same needles are used in both, the therapies are quite different. Acupuncture is an ancient Eastern modality that uses needles to increase the flow of chi (energy) throughout the body. Dry needling is a modern Western approach that uses those same needles to help heal trigger points, muscle spasms and muscle tension.

Dr. Vang describes the difference this way: acupuncture is electrical, and dry needling is mechanical. Our patients appreciate this analogy, as it helps them understand the difference between them.

How It Works

Based on your specific situation, Dr. Vang will place needles over areas of your body that are tight. Once the needle is placed in the trigger point, it stimulates the muscle to twitch and release. This works to break up the adhesions that cause tightness and pain.

Most of the time, you don’t feel a thing as the needles are placed. Sometimes, you may feel an ache for a second or two as the muscle twitches and then relaxes.

Patients typically feel some relief immediately, although it may take a series of sessions to heal the muscles completely.
